All over the news, the G20 summit has certainly been on everyone’s minds. Or has it? As a frequent viewer of the news, and one who likes to keep up on these subjects, I’ve noticed a trend.
No one seems to care too much about the summit itself. They’d rather talk about Michelle Obama touching the Queen! Or they’d rather discuss how the things she is wearing are flying off the shelves at Jcrew.
Lets talk more about the summit please! Seriously! In the past it’s always been a G8 summit, but now it’s G20. This is a good sign. The protests, also a good sign. I’ll have to go somewhere else for news about what actually happened, as CNN can’t seem to pull their heads out of Michelle Obama’s ass.
So I was sent a link to the NORML site today that spoke about a bill before Congress to create a new commission to study the effects of Marijuana Prohibition, and the War on Drugs in general on the US.
After years and years of fighting for personal freedoms and rights of the masses, something may finally be happening to put a stop to the madness.
Check out the NORML website to get more information and write your legislator!
I writing to tell you how angry I am about the AIG bonuses and the TARP funds. I am angry at the House of Representatives for even THINKING of taxing the AIG bonuses! Stop thinking about the corporation, and think about the PEOPLE that received that money. They worked very hard for it, and they expected it. Their FAMILIES expected it.
I understand that AIG is too big to fail. I understand that AIG is such a HUGE company that letting it fail would ruin the economy. Giving them TARP funds was not a viable solution, and it NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
I’ve heard that there is a new committee similar to the SEC that will be overseeing private business such as AIG to prevent this type of thing in the future. I think that handling AIG in a manner similar to that of the Banks is a much more viable option.
I have ONE REQUEST of you and your fellow congressman. Please read the bill in its entirety before voting on it! I am ashamed at our government for putting a bill into law that no one read. I understand we were in a hurry. If that is the case, pass pieces of the bill, as opposed to the entire thing! Instead of having a 1000+ page bill, separate each section and let the President review and sign them that way. If that’s what it takes for Congress to KNOW WHAT THEY ARE ENACTING, then by all means take those necessary steps.
It honestly sounds to me like Congress is overdue for process reform. Get a Black Belt in Six Sigma in there and work out your processes so they aren’t so jilted. Maybe then we could get some laws that work - as opposed to those that we can’t make heads or tails of.
What a couple of weeks in the news! I’ve noticed ever since Michael Phelps got caught smoking marijuana on camera, that Larry King asks all of his guests how they feel about it. Joy Behar even had Steven Baldwin vs. Ron Paul!
Scores of other politicians/celebreties, and general populace have been questioned regarding the topic. Many of the comments and posts have included not only the decriminilaztion of marijuana, but the legalization of hemp for commercial use.
So many have also mentioned the tax and economical benefits of taxing the soon to be legal marijuana. President Obama has even got an attorney general that is telling the DEA to stop raids in CA on dispensaries! There is so much buzz about leaving medical marijuana patients alone that it is hard not to notice it’s on everyone’s minds.
I hope all this recent buzz and exposure will convince our legislators, and communities of the benefits of the drug - and how the prohibition of it is really hurting our great nation.
What a speech! As the cameras looked on the crowed he sure did give them hope. Four years ago I watched this from my old apartment, silently contemplating ways to move to Canada. In fact, I think we researched it on my laptop. The thought of 4 years of Bush again was not only heartbreaking, but sickening.
Today, I sat here, with Obama brownies eating with hope. Listening to his speech was like being a kid again, watching Bill Clinton speak at his inauguration.
Ok, so they’re definitely not autonomous, but they certainly are Auto. As in Automobile. The Big 3 that is. And Autonomous is what they should be.
So how did we get here, and where do we go from here? To fail or not to fail, that is the question. Congress has been in debate about providing billions of dollars in loans to Chrysler and GM for days, and this evening the Senate said No. My theory? Too many chefs ruin the soup. These CEO’s has the guts to lay it out on the line in front of the entire nation, on national television, and beg Congress for money. Hell, I’d pay to see that! So let’s give them the funds they need. Isn’t that just enabling them you ask? Isn’t that just furthering a system on credit that is failing at it’s core anyway? Yes. Yes it is. But what happens if they fail? If they liquidate their assets (as was noted by the president of the UAW today)? Another 2 Million Jobs Lost?
What’s the other option? We could let them fail and use the money we were going to give them to plan projects to rebuild the country’s infrastructure. Roads, highways, bridges, railways, etc. We could use the money to reinvest in our Government buildings and hire those workers of failed Auto Industries to make our buildings more “green” hence saving energy costs and saving our planet in the long run. (see “President -Elect Barack Obama’s Plan to implement or save 2.9 (or so) Million Jobs). Or we could do both. We could provide the Big 3 with enough funds from the Already Planned Wall Street Budget to keep them solvent till March, give the Obama team enough time to finalize their plans and get Congress to start acting, and move those workers from point A to B.
Huh. Sounds Like A Good Idea.
Some one should post this shit on the Internet.
So I was watching Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s “America’s Killer Diet” special on CNN’s Special Investigations Unit.
Apparently partially hydrogenated soybean oil is super high in omega 6 fatty acid, which although good for your brain, has skyrocketed in use in the past 10 -20 years or so. Apparently other fatty acid use has stayed the same or declined slightly.
Omega 6 fatty acid overuse pushes the other fatty acid’s and oils out of your brain, as your brain is made of those fatty acid’s and oils. It makes your brain go from looking like a full forest in summer, to a forest in winter.
Scary eh? Now go look through your cabinets. Go look at how many items have Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil in them. It’s astounding! This can lead to depression, suicidal thoughts, and criminal behaviour.
In fact, Doctor’s have been advised to prescribe their patients fish oil and other omega 3’s to counter act the high levels of omega 6’s.
I checked my cabinets. I found 2 items. Fake Cheese Potatoes from Aldi’s and Old El Paso Taco Seasoning. This is in everything. Most of the products in my house are organic, natural, homemade etc. I was surprised to find Anything in my house containing this, however, we do have our vices, and those 2 items pretty much sum them up!
Consider this your public service announcement for the year. Check your labels. Know what you are putting in your body and PAY ATTENTION! I’m not asking you to go eat organic, or go on a diet, or any of that, I’m just asking you to be careful!
So many of those 10 commandments are seen broken on the news everyday. All ten if you ask me. But that’s not what I’m referring to here. I’m referring to another type of sin. Two specific types actual.
Thou shall not judge.
Thou shalt be honest with thyself and others.
Take those two very seriously when weighing your options for President, Congress, Governer, Mayor, or other branches of the government. Do not Judge the candidate simply on the fact they are black, white, muslim, catholic, a war veteran, etc. Learn about the person behind the campaign; their take on the issues.
Using these tactics may seem far fetched when talking about voting, and is probably what all those Undecided Voters are doing. (I’m undecided, and that’s how I look at it.) Nonetheless, it’s still good advice.
I received a smear e-mail about Obama recently, citing all these quotes from his books about feelings he had growing up. Issues that he dealt with being the race that he is. Even a quote about some of his exposure to the Muslim religion. I responded to that e-mail and simply stated that many of us felt the exact same way he expressed at the ages he was referring to. I even went on to say, “What if he is Muslim? Why should that change my vote?” The response I got back made me ever so happy. I made the person realize how judgemental they were being toward voting! I don’t care if they are voting for McCain - Hell I might vote for McCain! All I’m asking is that you use sound reasoning to choose your elected officials. Is that too much to ask?
So I thought I should mention why I’ve been so politically confused lately, and even starting researching the parties in the first place, and what I learned about the respective candidates. I mean that would provide some insight. I went to my chiropractor’s office this morning and had a nice long chat about voting. I thought I had it figured out, and that I was going to vote Obama. However, he brought up a few good points about health insurance and taxes.
Health insurance. Why should the premiums be increased for Mr. Healthy guy, when Mr. Sick guy does nothing to take care of himself? And Taxes? He had the same view as me with EIC, why give poor people with extra kids more money? I understand the Child Tax Credit, but EIC?
And for Pre-existing conditions, he reminded me of the pregnant woman who obtained insurance at 9 months pregnant.
Then I had to go and visit Bob Barr’s website, and be reminded of individualism and the importance of private charity. We should not rely so much on Government to provide that which we need! We should take the initiative to do it ourselves! Lower the tax rates so that the individual can afford their own health care, and other programs so desparately needed to provide for ourselves.
</frustrated speaking>
Neither candidate really has a plan to provide these types of programs. McCain’s plans require less government, but are still overly socialistic in nature. I’m not saying socialism is bad by any means! What I’m proposing could be considered so in some circles - except it’s not a redistribution of wealth - or a common use of previously private held firms, (aka banks). It’s the ability of the society to provide for the society itself and of itself.
It’s the promoting of neighbors to provide for each other for what they are worth - not for free. Why should I have to pay an insurance company monthly dues to pay my Dr. bills? If I wasn’t paying those monthly dues I could pay the bills myself! ( Who created this insurance business anyway? What were we like without it? )
I guess I should just keep hoping, and maybe the country will see the wrongness of their ways.
I’ve been researching the different parties, trying to relearn their history to help with my voting strategy after a profound conversation this morning. After I read Atlas Shrugged last year my life was changed. I looked up libertarianism, and found this:
From Wikipedia
Ayn Rand’s international best sellers The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957) and her books about her philosophy of Objectivism inspired a new interest in ideas of liberty and influenced modern libertarianism. Brian Doherty describes her influence: “[H]er literary skills and burning moral passion, as much as her rigorous, systematic approach to the linkages between reason and liberty, will remain a powerful introduction to the idea that your life belongs to you, not to the state or the collective—and to the rich and complex series of conclusions about the proper nature and mission of government that follows from that idea.”[21] For a number of years after the publication of her books, people promoting a libertarian philosophy continued to call it “individualism.”[22] Two other women also published influential pro-freedom books in 1943, Rose Wilder Lane’s The Discovery of Freedom and Isabel Paterson’s The God of the Machine.[23]
If only I could get the whole world to adapt to this in one day. If only… it makes me not want to vote Obama. in fact it makes me not want to vote at all.
